Winnipeg Jets opens 2019-20 Season

The Winnipeg Jets opened the 2019-20 season at Bell MTS Place with a big 5-2 against the rival Minnesota Wild and a rock & roll light show as the Jets were introduced in the pre-game ceremonies to the sell out crowd. The Jets opened the season with 4-game road trip that saw the club with 2-2 record. The two wins against the Pittsburgh Penguins (4-1) and a shootout win against the New Jersey Devils (5-4). The win against the Penguins is the first game the Jets have won on the road was the first franchise victory since 2006.

In the home opener against the Wild, Patrik Laine scored two goals and helped with two assists. Currently, Laine is tied for second in the NHL with 11 points – 3 goals, 8 assists in seven games and recently announced as the league’s Second Star of the Week.

Edmonton Oilers centre, Connor McDavid and Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby were named the other Stars of the Week.

The Jets flew into Chicago for a quick road trip overtime win against the Blackhawks and came back to Winnipeg to host a 5-game home stand. The opened the homestand with two consecutive losses to the Pittsburgh Penguins (7-1) and Arizona Coyotes (4-2). The Jets homestand continues with the New York Islanders, Edmonton Oilers and LA Kings before they take to the ice in the Heritage Classic in Regina against the Calgary Flames on Saturday, October 26.

Five local singers including resident anthem singer, Stacey Natrass Brown capped the opening ceremonies with the singing of the US and Canadian national anthems. The following anthem singers will be taking the stage throughout the upcoming season – Ashley Klimpke, Beverley Wynne, Evan Rogalsky and Sarah Baxter.
