Ultimate New Wave Evolution (& closely related styles) part 55

Despite its relatively short career (1982-1987), The Smiths had become one of the most iconic and legendary bands in the archives of Indie Pop / Post-Punk music. Over the years, the English outfit also became one of the most written and talked about.

Among the many publications about The Smiths and its members, the following may be regarded as indispensable; after all, two were authored by the band’s leaders and chief songwriters themselves, respectively. I included also in this set some of the band’s essential compilation albums.

* A Light that Never Goes Out (The Enduring Saga of The Smiths) by Tony Fletcher (2012, Three Rivers Press)
* The Ultimate Guide to The Smiths (2019, TI Media Limited)
* Set the Boy Free (Autobiography) by Johnny Marr (2017, Dey St. / HarperCollins)
* Morrissey (Autobiography) (2013, Penguin Classics)
* Hatful of Hollow (1984)
* Louder than Bombs (1987)
* Rank (1988)
* Best I (1992)
* Best II (1992)
* Singles (1995)
