Brix Del Carmen Dominates Upo Festival, Wins Both Heaviest and Longest Upo Contests

This year’s Upo Festival saw an impressive display of backyard-grown talent, but one name stood above the rest—Brix Del Carmen, who won both the Heaviest Upo and Longest Upo contests, walking away with a remarkable $2,000 in prize money.

The competition was fierce, with gardeners from across Winnipeg bringing their best upos to the festival. Each entry was carefully measured and weighed, following strict guidelines, including a new rule this year that barred upos longer than 5 feet from competing in the heaviest category. Despite the added challenge, Brix Del Carmen’s entries wowed the judges and festival-goers alike, proving that dedication and a green thumb can yield incredible results.

Del Carmen’s victories were a highlight of the festival, but the excitement didn’t stop there. The top three winners in both categories included:
Heaviest Upo: 1st Place – Brix Del Carmen; 2nd Place – Yolly Caringal and 3rd Place – Mario Enriquez
Longest Upo: 1st Place – Brix Del Carmen; 2nd Place – Zacharias Cadiz and 3rd Place – Yolly Caringal

In addition to the headline-making upo competitions, the festival also featured the Funny Vegetables Category, which had participants displaying quirky and amusing vegetable creations. The category sparked plenty of laughter and camaraderie, as festival attendees marveled at the fun, wholesome entries.

The festival also hosted an acrylic painting Workshop and contest for children, with 30 lucky participants showcasing their artistic skills. The backyard produce barter and sale added to the day’s festivities, giving attendees a chance to take home fresh, locally-grown vegetables.

With Brix Del Carmen’s double victory making headlines and a strong showing of community spirit, this year’s Upo Festival has been one for the books.
