Celebrating the Rich Culture and History of Filipinos in Manitoba: Reyes
Jon Reyes, MLA for Waverley, was pleased to introduce Bill 233: The Filipino Heritage Month Act, in the Legislature this week to recognize June as Filipino Heritage Month across Manitoba.
“Many Filipinos have chosen Manitoba to call home since the 1950s and have established their roots in the province, reaching every corner from urban centres to rural areas,” said MLA Reyes. “I am pleased to introduce this Bill to recognize the social, cultural political and economic benefits that Filipinos and those of Filipino descent provide to our province.”
The vibrant Filipino culture and heritage is traditionally celebrated during the month of June in Manitoba, as June 12 is Philippine Independence Day. This Act will recognize June in each year to be known throughout Manitoba as Filipino Heritage Month.
