Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) peace panel Chairman Mohagher Iqbal said the youth of today will reap the fruits of peace in the future, as he pushed for support for the peace process between the MILF and the government,
Speaking before the graduates of the Xavier University (Ateneo de Cagayan) during their 76th Commencement Exercises last week, Iqbal urged his audience to join the ‘journey of peace’ by making their voices heard relative to the issue.
The Fr. William F. Masterson, SJ Award was later bestowed to Iqbal and government of the Philippines peace panel Chairman Miriam Coronel Ferrer. Secretary Teresita Quintos Deles of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) was also conferred with Doctor in Humanities honor during the exercises.
Meanwhile, Moro civil society organizations and the Interfaith Council of Leaders (IFCL) appealed anew for the enactment by Congress of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL). They said the BBL will create a better Bangsamoro self-governing government that could exert greater control in the peace and order situation and maintain the rule of law in far-flung areas in Mindanao where suspected terrorists and armed groups have established sanctuaries.
