On Thursday afternoon November 18, 2021 (Comelec) spokesperson James Jimenez said the poll body’s second division granted the appeal of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s camp to extend the deadline for the submission of their response to the first disqualification case against him. Jimenez said the Marcos camp was given five days of extension. “The last day is November 22, 2021 since the 5th day falls on a Sunday,” he added. Marcos’ spokesperson Atty. Vic Rodriguez first broke the development during a CNN Philippines interview on Thursday morning but Jimenez, in a later online press briefing on Thursday noon, shortly after Rodriguez’s announcement, said that the matter is yet to be resolved.
The Comelec directed respondent Marcos Jr. to submit his verified answer within five days from receipt of the notice in the summons dated November 11, 2021. The camp of Marcos received the poll body’s notice on the same day, which means he should submit his verified answer to the petition on November 16. Instead of lodging a reply, Marcos, through his counsel, asked for an extension to respond to the disqualification case.
