The year-long events and festivities to mark Manitoba’s 150th anniversary kicked off Friday with an unveiling at The Met downtown. Dubbed as Manitoba 150, host committee chair Stuart Murray led the official launching of the logo, theme and website that will brand and guide the year-long celebration. He said that the event commemorates Manitoba’s past, celebrates the present, and looks forward to Manitoba’s future. The celebration will also honour the thousands of years that First Nations have called this land their traditional territories and the hundreds of years that the Metis have called Manitoba home. The province is providing $2.5 million as seed money while potentially getting private donors to match contributions up to $5 million.
