Luz Salvador was awarded Mother of the Year 2019 by the Original Filipino Seniors Association of Manitoba (OFSAM) as they once again celebrated the awards event last May 25th at the Viscount Gord Hotel.
Escorted by her son, Reggie Salvador, Luz entered the hall for a warm ceremony. The following were the awards and award presentors:
Sash – pinned by Flor Rembon, escorted by MP Kevin Lamoureux
Bouquet of flowers – handed by Lorie Fernandez, OFSAM treasurer, escorted by Cris Aglugob
Trophy – given by OFSAM vice president Claire Nazario, escorted by MP Robert Falcon Ouellette
Special gift – handed by Juanita Limon, Nora, Mila Briol and Norma Lintac.
Other members and guests who participated in the program were:
Carrie Barroga – invocation; Gloria Agravante – singing of the Philippine National Anthem and Oh Canada; Arnold Tongol – special guest singer who dedicated his song to Luz; Claire Nazario- closing remarks; and Rod Cantiveros, Azelle Santos and Gladys Martin – emcees.
OFSAM’s Mother of the Year award event is held annually for more than forty years now, recognizing the roles of mothers in promoting solidarity in the family, also in conjunction with the Mother’s Day month celebration; in which case this year, recognizing Luz Salvador, who despite being a widow, has continued to uplift and bring her family strongly together.
