Faith in Action: Selkirk Hosts 36th Annual Public Way of the Cross

Selkirk, MB — On Good Friday, April 18, 2025, hundreds of faithful gathered at Notre Dame Catholic Church in Selkirk for the Archdiocese of Winnipeg’s 36th Annual Public Way of the Cross. The solemn event began at 9:30 a.m., inviting participants to walk together in prayer and reflection through the Stations of the Cross.

Organized by the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry (OYYAM), the event brought together parishioners, youth groups, and families from across Manitoba to remember Christ’s final journey to Calvary. Young people played a central role, leading prayers and readings at each station — a powerful reminder of how faith continues to be passed on to new generations.

This year’s theme drew from Matthew 16:24:

“If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”

It served as a meaningful call to live with compassion, courage, and conviction, even amid life’s challenges.

The Public Way of the Cross offered a space for shared prayer, community witness, and spiritual renewal. For many in Selkirk and beyond, it was a moving way to mark the sacredness of Holy Week.
