Dragon Dance to Game-Winning Goals: Jets’ Lunar New Year Celebration Lights Up Canada Life Centre

The Winnipeg Jets hosted Winnipeg’s Chinese community with Lunar New Year game with the Winnipeg Jets taking on the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins at Canada Life Centre.

The Lunar New Year celebration featured an array of pre-game performances that included Dragon Dance, the melodious sounds of Chinese instruments, enchanting folk dances, and soulful singing.

Adding to the evening’s emotional resonance, Paul Ong, Vice Principal at Meadows West School shared on Facebook his nerves and excitement as he performed the US and Canadian national anthems in front of a sold-out crowd of 15,000 Jets fans. Ong was joined by Manitoba Chinese Choir from the Great Wall of Performing Arts.

On the ice, the Jets faced off against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Breaking a five-game losing streak, the Jets secured a 2-1 victory, with Mark Scheifele and Nino Niederreiter scoring the decisive goals. This win, their first since January 21, improved their season record to 31-14-5, injecting a burst of momentum into the team’s performance.
