Hosted by the City of Winnipeg under the combined sponsorship of the Manitoba Council of Canadian Filipino Associations Inc. (MaCCFA) and the Original Filipino Seniors Association of Manitoba, a Filipino flag raising ceremony was held last June 10 at the City Hall’s ground.
Markus Chamber, City Councillor for St. Norbert and Deputy Mayor addressed the event on behalf of Mayor Brian Bowman who was out of town, “so as we raise the flag today and celebrate with you, we must also strive towards inclusiveness of all cultures that make Winnipeg such a great place to live work and raise a family.”
Other city councillors who were present at the ceremony were Cindy Gilroy, Brian Mayes, Kevin Klein, Vivian Santos, Sherri Rollins, Scott Gillingham and Shawn Nason.
Julie Holand Javier, president of MaCCFA; and Clarita Ortega-Nazario, vice president of OFSAM also addressed the flag raising ceremony. Gem Anis, one of the founders of the Batangas Association of Manitoba was the emcee. Hilario Calo rendered the singing of the Philippine National Anthem.
A flag raising hosted by the Philippine Canadian Center of Manitoba, Inc. (PCCM) was also held and attended by city and community leaders while The Manitoba Association of Filipino Teachers, Inc (MAFTI) held their Cultural Night last June 13, 2019 at the Tyndall Park Community School.
