Winnipeg, MB – March 4 , 2025 – Witness the future of STEM through the eyes of our youth. From groundbreaking research to inventive solutions, each project at the Bison Regional Science Fair (BRSF) is a window into the incredible potential of our nation’s young scientists. The annual Bison Regional Science Fair is set to take place on April 9-10, 2025, at Holy Cross School, continuing a proud tradition that has inspired aspiring young scientists since 2017.

With registration open until April 4, participants from across the region are preparing to showcase their innovative projects, uncovering the mysteries of science and technology. Over the years, Bison representatives have excelled at both national and international levels, winning prestigious awards, including scholarships from Canadian universities, Sanofi Biogenius, Shad Canada, and Youth Science Canada’s special prizes.

This year promises an engaging atmosphere where creativity and scientific inquiry collide, as budding scientists from various backgrounds present their research and inventions. Students will compete in two project types: Discovery and Innovation, spanning five grade categories: Science Buddies (Kindergarten – Grade 3), Elementary (Grades 4-6), Junior (Grades 7-8), Intermediate (Grades 9-10), and Senior (Grades 11-12).

Challenges and Special Awards include Aerospace, Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Curiosity and Ingenuity, Digital Technology, Disease and Illness, Energy, Environment and Climate Change, Health and Wellness, and Natural Resources.

The fair will include public viewing from 4:15 PM to 5:00 PM on April 10, allowing the community to witness firsthand the remarkable work of young minds in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). The awards ceremony will follow at 5:00 PM in the Holy Cross School Gymnasium.

“This event is vital for fostering interest in STEM among our young minds,” said event organizer Dr. Anju Bajaj. “It not only provides a platform for students to present their work but also encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for future innovators.”

Judges, educators, and community members echo this sentiment. “The level of ingenuity and dedication displayed by these students is astounding,” said one of the lead judges. “Each year, I am impressed by their curiosity and ability to tackle real-world problems.”

Participants also highlight the fair’s impact on their growth. “Presenting my project gave me the confidence to pursue a career in science,” shared a past competitor. “It was an experience that opened doors to mentorship and learning opportunities I never imagined.”

Educators emphasize the importance of such initiatives in inspiring the next generation. “This event fuels our students’ passion for discovery and gives them an avenue to apply classroom learning in meaningful ways,” noted a local teacher. “Seeing their ideas come to life is incredibly rewarding.”

Community members appreciate the fair’s broader significance. “It’s amazing to see young minds working on solutions that can truly make a difference,” remarked a sponsor. “This event showcases the bright future we have in STEM fields.”

Among the array of exhibits and awards, up to five exceptional students will be selected to advance to the Canada-Wide Science Fair in Fredericton, taking place from May 31 to June 7, 2025, at the University of New Brunswick. These talented individuals will represent Bison’s continued commitment to scientific advancement and exploration, creating opportunities for further development and exposure in the scientific community.

Local businesses and community sponsors play an essential role in making the fair possible, showcasing robust support for educational initiatives. Volunteers from various backgrounds will assist with event organization, judging, and mentorship—making a direct impact on students’ experiences.

Families, educators, and science enthusiasts are encouraged to attend this year’s public viewing segment. Visitors will be treated to a diverse range of projects that not only unveil students’ scientific acumen but also promote collaboration and inspiration among peers.

In the spirit of innovation and community engagement, the Bison Regional Science Fair stands out as a highlight on the regional calendar, reaffirming its significance as a nurturing ground for young minds ambitious for change. Those interested in participating are encouraged to register before the April 4 deadline and join a long-standing legacy that celebrates scientific inquiry and technological advancement.
