Eight post secondary students were given cash scholarship awards; and three UST Alumni members became the recipients of the first bursary program by the University of Santo Tomas Alumni Association of Manitoba Inc., in a ceremony held last October 18, at the Sturgeon Heights Community centre.
The 2015 USTAAMI Scholarship recipients include the following: 1s scholar t- Semon Alfaro, Graduate: Vincent Massey Collegiate. Enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering, U of M; 2nd Marilen Anju Dolores, Kelvin High School. Enrolled in the College of Science, University of Winnipeg; 3rd Steffi Paciente, Maples Collegiate. Enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering, U of M; 4th, Michael Anthony Guevarra, Maples Collegiate. Enrolled in the Faculty of Engineering, U of M;5th Rodell Salonga, St. Paul High School.Enrolled at the Faculty of Engineering, U of M; 6th,Graciel Hannah Espiritu, Miles McDonnel Collegiate. Enrolled at the Faculty of Science, U of M;7th Joyce Jugo, West Kildonan Collegiate; Wants to be a lawyer and to major in musical theatre; 8th Rayeil Jeselyn Chua, Steinbach Regional Secondary School. Enrolled in the Faculty of Science, U of M.
The funds for the scholarship from interest of the capital funds managed by the Winnipeg Foundation; while the bursary money was generated from the breakfast fund raising held recently.
Special guests include: Adriel Agpalza, a law student, gave an inspirational talk to the awardees and guests; Cathy Auld, director of Donor Relations and Corporate Secretary; and Pat Liley, Student Awards Specialist of the Winnipeg Foundation.
Scholarship committee includes Dr. Mirla David, chairperson; Alda Ruiz, Leah Enverga Magsino, Clara Orallo, Archie Huypungco, Rod Escobar Cantiveros, and Phil Anciro.
