On Wednesday, October 21, PBA finally unwrapped its 41st season with a colorful and lively opening ceremony at the mall of Asia Arena.
The PBA was originally scheduled to launch its latest season last October 18 at Amart Araneta Coliseum but was cancelled due to typhoon Lando.
The season marked the term of Chito Narvasa as commissioner of the league.
“After 41 years of providing us with the drama of exciting and heart-wrenching games, turning basketball heroes into legends and transforming ordinary viewers into loyal and avid fans, the PBA has become an essential part of every Filipino’s life,” Narvasa said in his speech.
“It has built a common language that is able to bind all generations from our lolos to the apos, the Ilocano and the Cebuano, from the OFWs abroad and their families here and even with the techies and non-techies. And together with all the rapid technological changes, the PBA has also managed to grow its popularity due in large to the loyal following of its fans,” Narvasa added.
The Gilas Pilipinas team was honored at center court for winning the silver medal in the 2015 FIBA Championship which was held in China.
The 12 teams paraded with their respective muses with Talk ‘N Text, Barako Bull and San Miguel Beer among the crowd favorites.
El Gamma Penumbra also performed their shadow play while Abra sang the league’s theme song.
