The three papal chairs to be used by the Pontiff’s visit to Manila will be made of Philippine mahogany without many trimmings. According to Robert Cruz, owner of VitreArtus, which was commissioned to craft the papal chairs and the altar, the simple but beautiful design will reflect Pope Francis’ taste for simplicity and will likewise mirror the Filipino touch.
The papal chairs will be used by the Argentine Pontiff at three scheduled events namely, the meeting with families at SM Mall of Asia Arena on Jan. 16, the event at the University of Santo Tomas and the Eucharistic celebration at Quirino Grandstand both on Jan. 18. At least 6 million Filipinos are expected to attend the Holy Mass at Luneta that will formally conclude the Pope’s apostolic visit to the Philippines.
