Tough training for Nutcracker walk-on role
It’s rehearsal night and we’re exactly ten days away from my magical walk-on role with Maria Aragon for RWB Nutcracker. Along with Doug Spiers from the Winnipeg Free Press, we’re the first two guinea pigs to practice with the Nutcracker cast as dozens of kids from the RWB school watch.
Thiago Dos Santos and Liam Canes play the character of Drosselmeier and both will be my on-stage guides as we move across the stage during the performance. It’s pretty simple role as we’re told to walk-on stage, shake hands, sit down and pretend that you’re at a Christmas party. Simple enough until I was asked if we want to lift people. I’m all in and I’ll figure things out as the rehearsal goes on. Luckily, Thiago and Liam are there to give me a few pointers as I lifted and turned Elizabeth Lamont (playing the role of Aunt Josephine) around for my on-stage performance . This could get interesting on performance night! I lift so this should be second nature.
Next on the walk-on role agenda is a date with the wardrobe department. I’ll leave my costume a secret for performance night so that means you’ll have to buy a ticket and come watch the show. It’s a fantastic show and one that the entire family can enjoy. To our readers, my family and friends, I do hope you will be able to join me for a special evening with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s The Nutcracker. The Nutcracker is a magical story about a girl and her toy soldier as she dreams about a wonderland full of mysterious characters as the Mouse King and the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Royal Winnipeg Ballet’s acclaimed production of Nutcracker is a sheer delight, and features endearing Canadian moments such as a snowy pond hockey game and a scene on Parliament Hill. This year’s production will be even more heart-warming with the addition of twelve white furry friends! Danced to Tchaikovsky’s timeless score, Nutcracker featuring the dancers of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and performed by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra will take you on a wondrous adventure this holiday season.
