MLA Jon Reyes receives Quincentennial Award

MLA Jon Reyes, Minister of Economic Development and Jobs, received the award from Consul General Orontes V. Castro at the Legislature witnessed by Maria Rosini Alevero, Senior Trade Commissioner and Honorary Consul Ronald Opina of Winnipeg.

The Philippines is celebrating its Quincentennial celebration with three historical events; namely, 500th Anniversary of the introduction of Christianity in the Philip; 500th Anniversary of the Philippine part in the 1st Circumnavigation of the world; and the 500th Anniversary of the Victory at Mactan when Lapulapu won the Battle of Mactan where Fernando Magallanes met his death.

With the theme of “Victory and Humanit”, the National Quincentennial Committee was created when President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed Executive Order 103 on Jan. 28, 2019, to prepare for the important historical celebration of the three major events in 2021.

Quincentennial Award is given to outstanding Filipinos in the Philippines and abroad. Recently during the Consular Outreach Program by the Toronto Consulate General of the Philippines, Consul General Orontes V. Castro had awarded the “Quincentennial Award” to MLA Jon Reyes, Minister of Economic Development and Jobs.
