Canada Day Catfishing

Eric and Nash Lapauba and his family spent the day on the Red River near Selkirk, Manitoba competing in the Canada Day Catfish Competition hosted by the Filipino Anglers Association of Manitoba. With 12 teams, over 52 catfish were caught and released.

FAAM Canada Day Catfish Competition

The Filipino Anglers Association of Manitoba Canada Day Catfish Competition went down on July 1st, Canada Day on the Red River! 12 teams (ten boats and two shore) battled it out in the scorching heat for club catfish supremacy. Best 5 channel cats catch, photo, release format.

Team Labaupa won the derby with a total score of 177.75”!! (36.5, 36.25, 36, 35, 34) earned $600 in winning fist place. In 2nd place – Dave and Ralph Girling only one inch back at 176.75” (37, 35.5, 35.25, 35, 34) won $200. Rounding out in 3rd place, Richard Parisian, Chris, Murray 173.50” (35.75, 35, 34.5, 34.25, 34) earning $150 gift cert Blackneon Tattoo and $50 gift cert Carlo’s Cucina.

Other prize packages included 4th – Team Paton 167.25” (35, 33.5, 33, 33, 32.75), 5th – Dave Andj.t. 111.50” (34, 27.5, 26, 24)

Longest fish – Dave and Ralph 37” ($25 gift cert Max’s Restaurant), Hidden total length – 81” Dave and Jen (111.5”) with $50 gift cert Blackneon Tattoo, Hidden length – 21” Dave and Jen (24”) $25 gift cert Carlo’s Cucina.

Random draw 50 lumpia – Jackie Johnson and Perry Wnuk, Timber Wilderness packages by Janis Alrus and LisAbet Harbee, Filipino Journal Swag Package – Jason Cross, Kickerfish Package – Perdy Sirattananamvong and Robert Mazur $25 Carlo’s Cucina GC.

All in, over 52 channel cats were caught in the competition. It’s been a tough bite on the river lately so hats off to everyone for putting in a solid effort in extreme conditions.
