Associated Press (AP) national sports columnist Tim Dahlberg said Floyd Mayweather Jr. must fight Manny Pacquiao so as to earn legitimacy for his boxing career.
T
he sports columnist said Mayweather built his career by using deception to confuse and outwit his opponents. In a recent interview with the Showtime network, Mayweather set a May 2 date for the fight against Pacquiao. Mayweather also wants to set the purse to his liking and have Showtime be the broadcaster. He also repeated old arguments about blood testing which Dahlberg said didn’t make sense five years ago when he first started proposing them and make absolutely no sense now.
Dahlberg noted that it took five years to even get Mayweather to say he wants the fight the Filipino. But for a mega fight against Pacquiao, it needs to be wrapped up by the end of the year to allow time for the promotion to begin.
