The Junior Original Concert (JOC) is a program created by Yamaha Music in 1972 to provide opportunities for young musicians to share their original music compositions with an audience. Since that first concert so many years ago, JOC have been held in many locations throughout the world from small local halls to major stages of the world including Roy Thompson Hall in Toronto and the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York City.
This spring, Winnipeg will be at the centre of attention as it hosts the 2015 Junior Original Concert at the Berney Theatre on April 26th. The concert will feature amazing student compositions from Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver. As well, there will be an ensemble performance and a spontaneous improvisation by one of the young composers based on a theme provided by an audience member.
The concert will feature 5 young composers from Winnipeg performing their own piano compositions. They range in age from 6 years old to 11 years old.
