Join thousands of Winnipeggers at the first big party of 2013, and beat the winter blues. It’s your chance to experience the tastes, sights and sounds of Louisiana without leaving town, and support a worthy cause at the same time.
Dance all night with authentic Zydeco
This year’s main Winnipeg Mardi Gras attraction is C.J. Chenier and The Red Hot Louisiana Band. Having been called “the Crown Prince of Zydeco,” Chenier’s musical style ranges from traditional zydeco to modern funk, blues, R & B, ‘swamp pop’, and even country.
Savour the tastes of Louisiana
Pull up a seat at the 300-seat Food, Oyster and Wine Bar and indulge in Mardi Gras specialty foods like freshly shucked oysters, peel-and-eat shrimp, and melt-in-your-mouth alligator fritters. Also on the menu are southern favourites like Louisiana crab cakes, southern fried Cajun pickle spears, gumbo, shrimp creole, sweet potato fries, and more. Brand new this year is Mud Bugs (aka Crawfish).
Expect the unexpected
You never know what you’re going to see at Winnipeg Mardi Gras. Keep an eye out for aerial acrobatics, stilt walkers, showgirls, drag queens, the colossal man, living statues, hula hoopers, strolling Dixieland Band, Silver Elvis, and more.
Come in your own costume, or buy accessories onsite and join the parade. Visit the vendors on Bourbon Street where you’ll find hats, beads, boas, jewelry, novelty items, card readers, body painters, tattoo artists, and more.
