Vilma Santos is Best Actress Bangladesh film Fest

Multi-awarded and veteran actress and Batangas governor Vilma Santos was awarded Best Actress award for her lead role a bit player Loida Malabanan in the indie film “Ekstra,” at the 13th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) held in Bangladesh over the weekend.

The DIFF, considered the most prestigious film event in Bangladesh, is dedicated to the promotion of a healthy cine culture in the country. The festival was held in Dhaka from Jan. 10 to 18 with the theme “Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society.”

“Ekstra” was an entry to the 9th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival in 2013 and was also shown at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival.

Film makers from Iran bagged six trophies including Best Actor (Levon Hafevan for “Parviz”), Best Director (Parviz Shahbazi for “Trapped”), Badal Rahman award for the Best Children Film (“The Rooster Trademark Paper”), and Audience award (“Plastic”), among others.

The other winners came from Japan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Australia, India, Sweden, Afghanistan, Turkey, and South Korea.
