Rigor Celones tops with a score of 276 last Sunday game!
The vision of Mike Vila when he organized the St. Edwards Mixed Bowling League in the early 80’s had extended further, for a longer haul, as evident today that this bowling league is alive and thriving after the more than 35 years hitting more strikes than spares! As a testimony, Rigor Celones almost hit the nine perfect score last Sunday during the weekly bowling tournament at La Verandyre Centre last Sunday.
Villa, now a USA resident, started the St. Edward’s Mixed Bowling League at Empress Lane, Polo Park Inn (Canad Inn). Empress Lane became the meeting place for Filipino bowlers.
Headed by Henry Catalico, the St. Edward’s Mixed Bowling League has been much stronger, with 40 members who bowl at La Verendrye Bowling Lanes at 614 Des Meurons, St. Boniface every Sunday at 3 p.m.
“We have maintained our league like a family affair, with great sportsmanship and cooperation,” Henry Catolico said. “We have a plan for possible expansion by accepting more bowlers,” he finally said.
There are 10 teams which are bowling at present and the members are all excited every time someone has to get a perfect score; as shown by what Rigor Celones has done. The lobby of the bowling alleys is the place where their spouses watch the games and where their children freely play. Henry Catolico is the president while Hersey Saqui is the secretary of the league.
