The Coffee Club Kitchen

Newcomer Coffee Club Facebook Live Cooking Show

by Roselyn Advincula

When the pandemic hit last March 2020, most of us stayed home and found ways to adjust to the new normal.

Suddenly, social media became a way to connect with one another as well as learn new information and skills.

Technology brought more people together and our new normal allowed us to spend more time with our families and at the same time learn new skills.

The Coffee Club group discovered a way to continue connecting and learning from one another through the Facebook Live Cooking Show. There were volunteers from various culture who showcased their ethnic food.

We needed to come up with a title so there was the “Name the Cooking Show Contest.” Lorietta Fallaria won and it’s been named “The Coffee Club Kitchen.” We also had a logo making contest where Justine Keith Reyes, one of our youth participants , won.

There was a lot of interaction as a featured volunteer shared a recipe. Viewers asked about the dishes, memories attached to it, cultural tidbits and a lot of joking around.

We were apart yet we felt that we were together in one room sharing happy conversations and memories.

Because of its success, we are doing it again. This time for a holiday edition.

We are excited for the lineup. This will sure keeps us entertained and connected as we stay home this holiday season due to the red code restrictions.

We are grateful for our volunteers and participants who are actively engaging.

We have proven that we are all resilient and that we can cope together as a community.
