Rizal’s celebration inspires Filipinos

Every 30th of the Month of December, the Knights of Rizal of Winnipeg, headed by Sir Felino de Jesus,  bonded together to commemorate Dr. Jose Rizal’s martyrdom.
And the Ladies of Rizal , led by Lady Lea Enverga-Magsino, joined the celebration.
Ever since the founding of Knights of Rizal in Winnipeg, there has been  a continuous involvement to propagate and emulate the ideals and philosphies of Rizal. And this year, the events include the laying of wreath at Rizal’s memorial bench at the ground of Chapel Lawn; the annual youth recognition awards which were given to the young Filipino
students from the different schools in Winnipeg.
And a very special ceremony conducted by Sir Kevin Lamoureux, MP, to honor Dr. Roland and Irene Guzman by awarding the Queen Elizabeth ll Jubilee Medal for their involvement
in the Filipino community since their arrival in 1959. Being the pioneers in Winnipeg, Dr. Roland  and Irene Guzman have become active in various endeavours especially the
founding the Knights of Rizal and the Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba. Dr. Roland Guzman was the former honorary consul general in Manitoba.
