Filipino producer Jhett Tolentino won his first ever Grammy award for Best Musical Theater album for “The Color Purple” Sunday, Feb. 12, (US time).
Previously Jhett had won a Tony awards for “A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder” (Best Musical); “A Raisin in the Sun” (Best Revival in a Play) and “Vanya And Sonia And Masha And Spike” (Best Play). An accounting graduate from Iloilo, he moved to the US in 2004 to try his luck. He eventually landed on theater and started producing shows. He returned to the Philippines to start Jhett Tolentino Productions, Inc. as his way of giving back to Filipino talents.
