Post-Secondary Education Continues to be a Focus of this Conservative Government, Bruinooge

Winnipeg, Manitoba, March 29, 2012 — The Conservative Government today presented the 2012 federal budget and once again provided strong support for research, education and training.

“Our Government continues to support Canadian Universities and Colleges and this budget builds on a record that is unmatched in recent decades,” says Rod Bruinooge, Chair of the Government’s Post-Secondary Education Caucus.

We all want Canada’s students to succeed in the global economy with the help of the best education possible. That’s why since 2006, our Conservative Government has provided much needed support for our students. We have invested more than $10 billion annually in students and education, including more than $3 billion in transfers to provinces for post-secondary education and over $7 billion in direct support to students and their families.

Canada’s Economic Action Plan includes over $600 million in support of cutting-edge research infrastructure through the Canada Foundation for Innovation. Through linkages between firms and post-secondary institutions, knowledge generated by federal support for post-secondary research is harnessed to address market needs.

Universities such as the University of Manitoba will benefit from the Government’s 2012 federal investments in education, and I look forward to working with Universities and Colleges across Canada.
