President Aquino paid homage to the patron saint of Cebu by gracing the Sinulog Festival last Sunday in Cebu City.
Aquino arrived at about ten in the morning prior to the start of the grand parade and street dancing featuring some 151 contingents. His running mate in last year’s election, Senator Mar Roxas was with him.
In his speech delivered at the Cebu City Sports Center, the President exhorted the Cebuanos and everybody in attendance to pray to the Sto. Niño for protection against disaster and natural calamities. He also asked the people to pray for recovery and rehabilitation of those affected by the recent massive flashfloods in various parts of the country.
Aquino praised the Cebuanos for displaying unity to celebrate the Sinulog festival which he said is distinctly Cebuano. He also said the celebration showcased Cebuano values and beliefs that cannot be compared with any other festivities.
Despite the incessant rains, thousands locals and tourists turned up to watch and celebrate the colorful festival.
The President was welcomed by Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, Reps. Tomas Osmeña and Cutie del Mar and other city officials.
