Summer is upon us in Winnipeg and with the nice weather, it’s also food truck season! New to the city’s short line up of food trucks is Winnipeg’s first Filipino food truck – Pimp My Rice!
Roddy Seradilla’s childhood dream of operating a food truck came true as he launched Pimp My Rice food truck during the Aboriginal Day Live celebrations at the Forks and debut last week along Broadway.
On the Pimp My Rice menu are Filipino comfort dishes such as longanisa, pancit, tocino, lumpia and turon! As a former restaurant manager at Rudy’s Eat and Drink and bartender at Bar Italia, much of his food truck inspiration came from watching Food Network marathon episodes of Eat Street and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.
Tocilog Filipino breakfast for lunch on Broadway was a hit during its first week. The favorites were tocino, pancit and lumpia as they were the first menu items to sell out in his debut week. Everyone loves tocino!!
Once you’re done scarfing down the delicious and sweet tocino, make sure to save room for dessert. Pimp My Rice offers turon, and accentuates the traditional Filipino dessert with jackfruit and a dusting of icing sugar. Perfect for the walk back to the office. The only thing missing is sago and gulaman!
Congratulation to Roddy and Helene Seradilla and the entire Pimp My Rice crew! Make sure to check out their website PimpMyRice.ca and follow them on Twitter (@PimpMyRiceInc) for daily updates on where you can find them for lunch all summer long!
