Philippine Heritage Week 2018 – June 8 to 15, 2018

The Philippine Heritage Council of Manitoba (PHCM) Inc. would like to invite you to the 2018 Philippine Heritage Week, with multiple events being held throughout the week beginning on June 8, 2018 and until to June 15, 2018. June 12 is Philippine Independence Day.

On Friday, June 8 there will be a Philippine Night at Daniel McIntyre Collegiate Institute (720 Alverstone) at 6 pm, featuring cultural dance performances, a fashion show, and local talents. There will also be halo-halo. Tickets are $5 and $2 for children 8 years old and under.

The next day, Saturday, June 9, at the Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba or PCCM (737 Keewatin), PHCM will host the week’s Opening Ceremony with a Flag-Raising starting at 9 am. It is expected there will be significant representation from a number of community organizations, we well as citizens, elected officials and key dignitaries in attendance.

On Monday, June 11in DMCI’s Multipurpose Room (720 Alverstone), multiple generations will be able to mingle at PHCM’s Evening with Lolos and Lolas – Lolos and Lolas Got Talent!, starting at 6:00 pm. There will be performances, fun activities, food, prizes, and conversations circles. Grandparents and children are encouraged to attend and partake.

On Philippine Independence Day, Tuesday, June 12, there will be a Cultural Exchange between the Chinese and Filipino communities to foster dialogue and celebrate shared experiences and culture.

MAFTI (Manitoba Association of Filipino Teachers Inc.) will host a free a night of song and dance at their Cultural Night on Wednesday, June 13at PCCM (737 Keewatin) beginning at 5:00 pm.

This year’s Celebration of Faith has been moved from the weekend to Thursday, June 14and will be at the PCCM (737 Keewatin) at 6:00 pm. Members of various religions are welcome to attend and participate.

The celebrations will culminate with the Philippine Independence Ball, held at the Marlborough Hotel at 331 Smith on Friday, June 15at 6 pm. Tickets are $40.00 and multicultural attire is encouraged.

As an extension of Philippine Heritage Week, the annual Picnic in the Park to Welcome Newcomers will take place on Saturday, August 25from 11 am to 4:30 pm at Assiniboine Park. There will be a mass, followed by a lunch at 12 noon, and fun games and entertainment for all to enjoy.

Everyone is welcome. All events, except the Philippine Independence Ball and DMCI’s Philippine Night, are free.
