The Philippines will join Italy and Serbia in hosting the three Olympic basketball tournaments in July this year.
The tournaments will determine the wildcard teams for the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The country’s national team, Gilas Pilipinas, will be playing for a spot at the Olympics.
Gilas Pilipinas was second place to last year’s FIBA Asia Championship after being defeated by China, who took the gold medal and landing a spot at the Olympics.
The team will be joining Iran and Japan, last year’s third and fourth placers respectively in the wild card qualifiers. The following teams will also be competing in the wild card qualifiers- Italy, Serbia, Lebanon, Latvia and Croatia.
The teams already qualified are- France, Greece, Czech Republic, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Angola, Tunisia, Senegal and New Zealand.
