John Lloyd in congressional inquiry, hopes for MMFF reforms

Actor John Lloyd Cruz hopes Congress would pass laws to help reform the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) following a series of inquiries initiated by Laguna Representative Dan Fernandez over the disqualification of “Honor Thy Father” from the Best Picture category in the recent festival.

The MMFF claimed the film violated festival rules in that the producers allegedly failed to inform the organizers that “Honor Thy Father” was used as opening film in another film festival.

Notwithstanding the movie’s disqualification, John Lloyd was nominated for MMFF Best Actor; while Erik Matti won in the Best Director plum. The other awards won by “Honor Thy Father” were Best Child Performer, Best Theme Song, Best Makeup Artist and Best Supporting Actor.

The House Committee on Metro Manila Development approved the creation of a temporary Technical Working Group (TWG) that will help improve the rules and regulations of the MMFF.
