Two bobsled teams from the Philippines joined the Alberta Cup Provincial Championship in Canada scheduled last end of February.
According to Philippine National Bobsled Luge and Skeleton Association Inc. chief Thelmo Cunanan Jr., each team is composed of two men from the Philippine Coast Guard. The teams hope to gain more experience in the sport in their bid to represent the Philippines in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China.
The Philippines hold the distinction of being the first country in Southeast Asia to have a bobsled team. The Filipino bobsledders trained for four months in Austria. Since then it made its international bobsledding debut in the Europa Cup and also participated in the Tirol Cup, among others.
