Budget Secretary Florencio Abad said there will be no hiring of new government workers next year due to the P325-billion budget deficit.
Exempted from the no-hiring policy are teachers, nurses, and members of the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines.
Aside from the freeze on hiring, also affected are government infrastructure projects and acquisition of new vehicles by local governments units.
