NABA Winnipeg claim Peewee Championship in Glendale Heights

Glendale Heights played host to the annual NABA Championships

Winnipeg represented with great pride and determination at the annual NABA tournament on the September Labor Day weekend in Glendale Heights, IL. The tournament was host to 133 basketball teams and 17 volleyball teams from USA, Canada and United Kingdom representing 35 cities.

The NABA Winnipeg delegation raised money to send 8 basketball teams and 3 volleyball teams. Winnipeg took home 3 trophies and knowing that most of our teams came so close to the finals.

Mosquitoes our new and youngest edition to NABA played 4 games overall. The talented Tykes division fought hard by playing 5 games.

The undefeated Peewee Winnipeg team, took it all the way to the end to win the championship. In their wake, the defeated Virginia, Glendale Heights, Markham, Toronto and Washington DC to win the championship.

Bantam and Damsels both divisions with great skills came up short. Bantam had it tough with 18 teams in their division and Damsels found themselves in quarter finals but could not get through team Chicago.

Open ladies division consisting of young ladies 16 and older, made it to quarter finals coming 4th, beating Washington DC and Queens although they couldn’t get through Glendale Heights nor Toronto.

Juvenile division found themselves reliving last year’s 2013 final championship game all over again. Playing defending champs Montreal first game in which last year we should have done beat them sending them to the loosing bracket. Our boys had it tough from the beginning but work their way to the quarter finals amongst 11 teams coming in 4th place at the end.

Master team was placed in a tough bracket against Champions Chicago, followed by veterans of PBA New York Sipag in their second game. They played against several PBA legends, like Ponky Alolor, Manny Victorino of Great Taste, Tim Coloso and Relosa of Toyota.

Winnipeg coed volleyball won third straight title and Ladies took home 2nd place this year. Volleyball NABA is growing and truly a survival game of skill, strategy and energy with 3 to 5 sets played in every game.
