The third fight between boxing icon Manny Pacquiao and counter puncher Juan Manuel Marquez will take place on Nov. 12 right after the World Series.
This was disclosed by Top Rank chief Bob Arum who said the Mexican champion has accepted the revised contract, which states a catchweight of 144 lb, with Pacquiao’s WBO welterweight title on the line, and for Marquez to get a guaranteed purse of $5 million, the same purse that was offered Shane Mosley against Pacquiao.
The 37-year-old Marquez, the reigning WBO and WBA lightweight champion, however will have to wait for Golden Boy whether or not it would allow him a third fight with Pacquiao.
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer was quoted as saying they might match the offer and hand Marquez a similar $5 million offer to fight super-welterweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez instead.
For his part, Marquez doubts that Alvarez, the champion at 154 lb, may not be able to come down to 144 lb as the Top Rank offer states.
