Maria, Thia earn praises for inspired performances

Filipino-Canadian YouTube sensation Maria Aragon and Fil-Am “American Idol” Season 10 finalist Thia Megia received warm cheers from the audience with their rendition of the Philippine national anthem and US national anthem, respectively, during the third Pacquiao-Marquez match on Nov. 13 (Manila time) held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The performance of the 11-year-old Aragon who sang “Lupang Hinirang” also earned praises from the National Historical Institute (NHI), which is set to email a congratulatory message to Maria and her parents.

Aragon had personally consulted the NHI on the proper singing of the national anthem prior to the fight.

AI Season 10 finalist Thia Megia was also lauded for her rendition of the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Her performance likewise created buzz online and was the sixth top trending topic on local Twitter on Nov. 14.

Megia tweeted that being in the ring with boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao was a beautiful experience and another dream come true for her.

Aragon for her part was thrilled to have been part of the momentous boxing event.
