Local ice anglers have been hitting the ice hard over the holiday season. Ice thickness at most places are reaching about 18 inches to two feet after this extreme cold spell. Lockport and other areas on the Red River such as CIL Road and End of Main have been decent for walleyes and saugers action. Lake Winnipeg has really heated up the last week or so with numerous reports of steady greenback action and the occasional monster walleye. Balsam Bay and Road 103 have been the main access points with most heading not too far to get over 11-13 feet of water below the ice. Many have been driving their vehicles (cars also) onto the ice at these access points since well before Christmas, however still use caution and drive carefully whenever offroading on the ice.
