The local Metal band Sacrament (which performed in the August 3 semifinals) has made it to the finals of “My Band Rocks,” while Classical New Wave band haLf man haLf eLf is yet to compete for the same finals on August 10.
“My Band Rocks” is a band competition open to all Manitoba-based groups of whatever race and music genre–from Hip-hop to Country to New Wave to Metal. It is held every Tuesday on Dylan O’Connor’s Irish Pub at 2609 Portage Avenue. The bands compete for the ultimate first prize of $1000 in cash, second prize of free studio recording of one original song, and third prize of various items.
The last bout of semifinals will be on August 10, when haLf man haLf eLf competes with 5 other bands. All semifinalists will then compete in the finals on August 17.
The every-Tuesday show usually has no entrance fee. Everyone is welcome to attend. Individuals under 18 years old, however, must be accompanied by their parents.
