Lea Salonga rebuffs ‘mentoring’ issue on ‘American Idol’

Filipino international singer-actress and Tony award-winning performer Lea Salonga admitted that she was indeed invited to the hit TV show “American Idol” but not as guest mentor.

Speculations that Lea will soon be mentoring the AI contestants in one episode stemmed from a tweet this weekend by the show’s associate musical director, Michael Orland, asking Lea when she will be coming to AI.

Michael serves as pianist, vocal coach, and arranger for AI. He admitted that he indeed would want Lea to mentor the finalists.

For her part, the “Miss Saigon” and “Les Miserables,” star also took it to Twitter to clarify that Michael has invited her to just watch the show and not mentor on it.

She nevertheless appreciated Michael’s positive words about her.

Lea said Jessica Sanchez and Phil Phillips are two of her six bets in the current field of AI contestants.
However she refused to reveal who are her other four bets.
