On June 17 at ABS-CBN’s Dolphy Theatre, the 37th Gawad Urian honored Lav Diaz’s “Norte, Hangganan ng Kasaysayan” with four awards — Best Picture, Best Actress (Angeli Bayani) Best Screenplay (Lav Diaz and Rody Vera) and Best Cinematography (Lauro Rene Manda)
Angeli, who said being nominated is an honor in itself, bested veteran actresses Nora Aunor, Vilma Santos, Rustica Carpio, Cherie Gil, Agot Isidro, and Eugene Domingo.
The indie actress was personally picked by Direk Lav Diaz for the role. She hopes her award will also help other theater actors and boost the independent film industry in the local level.
