The House special panel on the West Philippine Sea has tapped former President Fidel V. Ramos and Supreme Court (SC) Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio as among its top advisers to address the Philippines’ territorial dispute with China.
This was announced by former Speaker Feliciano “Sonny” Belmonte Jr., now chair the House special panel, who cited the expertise of Ramos and Carpio in various issues concerning the Chinese government. Belmonte also noted that the former president was appointed by President Duterte to serve as special envoy to China to conduct talks on the ruling of Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, Netherlands. Also being considered as panel advisers are former Magdalo party-list Rep. Ashley Acedillo, ex-Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and Angkla party-list Rep. Jesulito Manalo.
