Garden City gets crafty with two new national brands, Michael’s and Bulk Barn slated to open in 2019

The evolution of Garden City continues with the announcement that two national brands will join the existing retailers.

Michaels, North America’s largest specialty provider of arts, crafts, and seasonal décor, and Bulk Barn, Canada’s largest bulk food retailer, have each confirmed they will join the shopping centre in 2019. The two retailers will move into the space formerly occupied by Sears as the area is subdivided into six units.

“Garden City has always been a place for communities and families to gather and we are expanding our offerings to accommodate a broader range of tenants,” says Rebecca Hyatt, Property Manager, RioCan Winnipeg. “The introduction of Michaels positions Garden City as a destination for the maker and do-it-yourself home decorators. We are also excited to welcome Bulk Barn, who is relocating to Garden City Shopping Centre and expanding their location to better accommodate the rising demand in the area. There’s a growing community of DIY enthusiasts in Winnipeg that fits seamlessly with what Michaels and Bulk Barn offer” adds Hyatt.

The addition of the two retailers represents nearly 28,000 square feet of retail space at Garden City. They will join the new-to-Winnipeg Filipino-focused grocer, Seafood City Supermarket., Seafood City Supermarket is scheduled to open this summer and Michaels and Bulk Barn are slated to open in the fall.

“For more than 45 years, Garden City has been the go-to shopping destination for the North West of Winnipeg. The changes we are making to our tenant mix and retail experience reflect the needs of the community. With these latest additions, we’re striking a balance between food, family, wellness, fashion and convenience and setting the property up for long term growth,” says Hyatt.
