Hello Everyone,
Losing a child is one of the most difficult and challenging situation a parent could face. When we lost our son, Michael Alden Ruiz, last January 25, 2014, we were devastated. Despite the medical challenges he went through and his cognitive and physical delay, Michael was a very happy and loving person, full of smile, laughter and hugs. We were blessed to have him for twenty three and a half years and there were numerous agencies and organizations which had assisted us with Michael’s special needs during those years. Organizing fundraising events for these organizations in his memory has helped us ease the pain, heal and move forward.
In 2014 we were able to raise $9244.69 for the PICU/PSCU Area at Children’s Hospital which purchased an Optiflow High Flow O2 Machine for PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)and some TV, DVD players, portable DVD Players and toys for PSCU (Pediatric Special Care Unit) for long term ventilated pediatric patients. This year we have decided to support the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation because our son Michael was one of the many children who received equipment like modified wheelchair and attended the Sun and Fun Camp funded by the Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation.
Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation is a local Manitoba charity that raises funds to purchase equipment and provide programs for children living with disabilities. These funds are used to provide resources such as specially modified bicycles, wheelchairs, walkers and ipads used for communication. This year, we will be holding our second Bud, Spud and Chicken Fundraising Event in memory of Michael on Friday, July 15 at Canad Inns Garden City from 6 – 9 PM. Tickets are $ 15.00. We are currently looking for donations or contributions for our silent auction. All donations above $15 will receive a tax receipt, cheques should be made payable to Children’s Rehabilitation Foundation. You can also donate Online by using this link:
