Five deserving students receive cash award scholarship from  UST Alumni Association of Manitoba Inc.

A UST member receives a bursary cash award

The 39th UST Alumni Association of Manitoba Inc. scholarship’s awards were handed to the five deserving students at the annual awarding ceremony held recently at the Sturgeon Community Centre. The five scholars selected from the 25 applicants include Janine Ysabel Santos, St. James Collegieate,1st awardee with $1,100 cash awards; 2nd, Reigina Alixandria De Roxas, West Kildonan Collegiate, $1,000; 3rd, Andrea Carla Abellera, Sisler High School, $900; 4th Cindy Atayan, L’institute Collegial Vincent Massey Collegieate, $800 and 5th, Neil Gabriel Dizon, Steinbach Regional Secondary School, $700. All the awardees are currently enrolled at the University of Manitoba pursuing their chosen careers.

Joy Ann Villafania, a UST almuni member, as a lone bursary recipient. Villafania is upgrading the required curriculum towards her B.S. in Education. She is a UST B.S.Education graduate in 2009.

Cathy Auld, director, Strategic Philanthropy, and Jennifer Aarhus, Student Wards Specialist, Winnipeg Foundation., were the special guests.
Sheree Mendoza, last year’s 1st awardee, gave an inspirational talk to the UST scholars.

The UST Alumni Association of Manitoba Inc.board of directors and officers: Gere Carbonell, president; Dr. Mirla David, vice-president; Jericho Bryan Giba, treasurer; Mayumi Vicente, asst. treasurer; Byron Yadao, auditor; Lani Pasco, secretary; Maricar Reyes, asst. secretary, Dr.Mirla David, Lauren Abano, Prosy Kalaw, Phil Anciro, and Nena Huypungco, directors; Leah Enverga Magsino, adviser. Scholarship committee: Reggie Santos, chairperson; Alda Ruiz, Rod Escobar Cantiveros, Leah Enverga Magsino, Phil Anciro, Maridol Madolora and Archie Hunpungco, members.

The 40th Anniversary celebration is being planned for next year. Rod Escobar Cantiveros, one of the founders, was present and looking forward for the milestone of the founding of the UST Alumni Association of Manitoba Inc. in 1978.
