Three Canadian Champion ribbers graced the Forks last weekend and Filipino Journal’s Jets reporter was sent in to judge the best ribs at Ribfest 2016.

RIBFEST 2016 was a family friendly event with a fundrasing goal of $20,000 to support two local youth projects in Winnipeg. Indigenous Youth and Newcomer Youth were the two local youth projects.

Indigenous Youth – CanU’s ultimate goals are to inspire youth to complete high school and continue with post-secondary studies thus empowering a new generations of Indigenous leaders. CanU programs inspire hope and confidence in the leaders of tomorrow through its out-of-school mentorship program for youth in Grades 5-12. CanU’s focus in 2016-17 will be providing more experiential education and health-related programming for Indigenous youth.

Newcomer Youth – The Newcomer Youth Educational Support Services Coalition focuses on strengthening the learning skills and global learning of Newcomer and at-risk youth within a family centered and community focused environment by providing free enriching educational afterschool and summer learning support programs.

RIBFEST 2016 included BBQ Ribs and Chicken by Smokin’ Hawg BBQ, Texas Rangers and Crabby’s BBQ Shack, music by Slip’D Disc, Rockalypso and the Winnipeg Steel Orchestra.
