The Sandiganbayan First Division has allowed the detention of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on hospital arrest.
According to the resolution, the Pampanga lawmaker will shoulder her hospital expenses while detained at the government-owned Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC). Arroyo and nine others have arrest warrants for charges of plunder in connection to the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office intelligence funds.
The court also ordered that the visits of Arroyo’s family and supporters be fully controlled by the Philippine National Police. Her use of communication gadgets shall also be under the authority of the Police Security and Protection Group.
Interviews by the media will only be allowed if authorized by the Sandiganbayan.
