In an annual ceremony held recently at Canada Inns Garden City, Winnipeg City Councillor Devi Sharma, Minas Pagtakhan, wife of City Councillor Mike Pagtakhan and Carmelita de la Cruz, were inducted as members of the Ladies of Rizal. City Councillor Devi Sharma is the 1st woman elected official to be inducted as a member of the Ladies of Rizal.
“I am honoured to be invited into the Ladies of the Knights of Rizal. Being a part of this group that honours Dr. Jose Rizal, the National hero of the Philippines, and to keep up the legacy of his teachings and ideals is an honour,”said Councillor Devi Sharma.
The Knights of Rizal, together with the Ladies of Rizal, Winnipeg Chapter, holds an annual youth recognition awards and inductions of the new members in the commemoration of the martydom of Dr. Jose P Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines.
