The Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) announced the opening of a portal that promised 100,000 new jobs in the services sector.
The group aims to generate 120,000 jobs in the services sector this year to meet its target of employing 1.3 million Filipinos by 2016. The services sector is considered to be the main growth driver of the Philippine economy today, BPAP president and CEO Benedict C. Hernandez said the career portal “Work Abroad. Live Here (www.workaboardlivehere.com),” will allow new graduates and established professionals to find rewarding careers in the country instead of going abroad.
BPAP senior executive director Gillian Virata said the IT-BPO employed more than 640,000 Filipinos, and generated revenue worth $11 billion last year.
Virata added that new graduates and professionals don’t need to go abroad for international, well-paying jobs. She said BPAP aims to increase visibility of the industry locally and the opportunities it offers for Filipinos will know how to look for rewarding jobs.
