Big crowds for downtown Filipino Street Festival

The 2016 Manitoba Filipino Street Festival drew thousands of spectators to their new downtown festival site at the foot of Manitoba Legislature along Broadway Ave. and Memorial Blvd. The annual display of Filipino culture, talent and artistry started with the morning parade featuring beautifully decorated and colourful floats. marching bands, walking groups and decorated cars, bikes and strollers. Local singers, entertainers, and performers graced the Broadway & Memorial mainstage throughout the day-long festival featuring Winnipeg’s deep pool of Filipino talents.

The TFC mainstage headliners performing at this year’s festival were Xian Lim and Tootsie Guevarra. Vina Morales was originally announced to perform at the festival and due to travel related challenges, she was not able to travel to Canada.

The Manitoba Filipino Street Festival is the largest Filipino community event in Manitoba featuring over 40 community associations participating in the parade and festival. The annual event is supported by small business exhibitors, food vendors and generous corporate sponsorship partners. The Filipino community in Manitoba is estimated at over 75,000.
